Vacuuming ability on hard floors and carpets:  

They were both better than average, as you would expect for vacuums in this price range, but the x1 Omni did seem to consistently struggle a bit more with larger debris than the s7 max v, but both were very good with the carpet deep clean.  

They were above average, but the Roborock S7 Max V was better. It was the highest score I’ve seen from a robot vacuum slash mop so far. 

Power test :

They both claimed to have huge amounts of suction, almost double the number of premium robot vacuums. We can confirm that extraordinary power with the Omni X1, where it had the highest airflow of any robot vacuum so far the Roborock S7 Max V had the highest suction power relatively.

The Omni X1 and the S7 Max V were nearly identical in the other power-related performance tests, like the crevice pickup test, where they both did significantly above average.

Navigation & App features:

Navigation is critical with smart robot vacuums. Both of these use lidar to create maps and navigate systematically. They both have near-perfect coverage at your house, can map your home quickly, and are efficient. The X1 Omni does seem to be a bit quicker with navigation than the S7 Max V but not by a considerable amount. 

They also both had multi-floor mapping, which is the ability to save up to three maps in case you want to use them for multiple floors.

They both were dead-on accurate with their app-based mapping features like virtual barriers where you draw lines or boxes on the map in the app to keep the robot from going where you don’t want it to go, a feature I find to be useful.

Speaking of the apps both of these have pretty much everything you could want in terms of state-of-the-art app features including very detailed scheduling options where you can set multiple parameters not just for date and time but power levels per room and mob settings you can tell them to clean just one room or one area within a room.

 They even have a virtual layout of the rooms; this means that a user can see a 3D map of the virtual walls of the house in real time as the robots vacuum and mop the whole surface.

They have video monitoring and remote control options with audio for pets. In addition, they have 3d maps and voice controls.

The Ecovax voice assistant does not require a third party; it has its built-in VOICE CONTROL YIKO but also supports Google Assistant and Alexa.

Battery life:

They both have the same size battery at 5200 mAh and have a battery life of around 3 hours which I think is the largest battery possible with current regulations; it should be possible to clean around 3000 sq ft depending on settings.

If you choose the highest power, it will likely be a bit less. However, the Omni claims to have a much longer run time than the s7 max v on its low power mode. However, with the help of self-charging, the robot returns to the base once the battery is low and will continue from where it left off once ready.

They both have very advanced obstacle avoidance sensors mounted in their front cameras. Other sensors see obstacles that other robot vacuums miss, like cords and clothing pet waste, and they avoid them most of the time.

The front-facing camera is an excellent addition to your robot as it lets you view your home in real-time, even in low light. This camera also allows two-way audio communication, which is an excellent feature if you need a security robot to keep an eye on your home while you’re away.

The Roborock S7 Max V outperformed the X1 Omni in every AI test except for the timed Test.

The size & weight:

The size is the first thing you’ll notice; the Ecovax bin is quite a bit taller and heavier than the Robrock, which could limit the places you would want to put this in your house. However, they both use similarly sized bags for dust collection and as far as I can tell, they evacuate their dust spins equally well.

Automatic Emptying:

They both have an Automatic emptying dock to purge collected dirt from vacuuming and mopping with a reliable 3L sealed bag. Based on an average-sized house can hold up to 60 days of debris. But, again, this is an automatic process during docking.

Water tank cleaning:

They both have what seem to be sturdy, clean, and dirty water tanks which are equally easy to fill and empty. However, they clean the robot’s mop pads in totally different ways:

  • The Omni has no moving parts within the sink; it fills with water, and the two mop pads spin to clean themselves; then, they will be dried with the electric heating system within 2 hours.
  • The Robrock has an internal brush system that moves back and forth to clean the pads. 

After the Test, we were surprised at how well they both did; they did seem to clean even stained pads thoroughly.

We think the Omni was better at cleaning the pads than the Robrock; at least in extreme conditions, they are also in advance with their auto hot air drying.

With the bin’s automatic filling of the water tanks, there did seem to be a difference:

  • With the S7 Max V, it filled its larger removable water tank every time.
  • But with the Omni, I was never really sure since its water tank is internal, and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to check to see if it’s been filled.

I mention this because the Omni dock will run through its water cycle whether the robot is properly docked, and we suspected it wasn’t filling the tank correctly. Add to this that the Omni has a much smaller water tank than the S7 Max V.

This is one area where the S7 Max V is better. 

Mopping:

Last but not least is the mopping ability; where the X1 Omni has two spinning brushes, the S7 Max V has a system that vibrates the mopping pad. 

One big difference is that the S7 Max V lifts its mopping pad when it senses carpet, so if you have a mixture of carpet and hard floors in your house, it can clean the whole house in one run.

So we can consider them equally matched and much better than less expensive robot vacuum mop combos. 

One thing that came up in the review, though, is that it took the Roborock S7 Max V longer than most of the others to saturate its mopping pad with water about 5 minutes and until its mopping pad is saturated, it will not be nearly as good so which of these do.

Running costs and replacement parts:

From time to time, you will need to replace parts such as:

HEPA filters

Brush rolls

Empty dock vacuum bags

Side brushes

The good news is that each model these are cheap to replace. Pads and bags for both are usually found for a few dollars. Often the best value is found in buying sets such as those for the X1 Omni and Roborock. Many companies compete for compatible extra sales, which keeps the price low.

App updates:

It should be noted that these systems can be dramatically improved with every app update. For example, a new update to the Omni just came out with even more cord avoidance. 

Moving to the self-empty bins, this is one of my favorite new features that have come out in recent years; it started with bins that emptied the contents of the dustbin, which was cool enough.

But now, these two also fill and clean the mop systems, which solves many problems and takes automation to the next level.

Final Thought: THE WINNER

Both the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and the ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 Omni are excellent devices that can take the place of a whole host of other devices.

But I think the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is one of the most capable and better systems overall than the Ecovax X1 Omni:

It was a better vacuum on hard floors and deep carpet cleaning with 3D mapping support. It has real-time obstacle avoidance and an AI algorithm that can adapt to any environment. It is a smart robot vacuum cleaner with full connectivity. It runs on a predefined cleaning route without setting up or configuring. Another cool feature is the fact that it cleans without making loud noises. It has intelligent mop lifting and works well with ultrasonic carpets.

However, it should be noted that Robrock states it’s only suitable for low-pile carpets at around 4 millimeters whereas the Omni will not be able to vacuum carpets while it’s on a mopping run so you’ll need to run it without the mopping pads
